Appalachian State’s Team Sunergy Shines in Solar Racing Event
The Appalachian State University solar vehicle team, known as Team Sunergy, recently demonstrated impressive performance at the Formula Sun Grand Prix. Over the course of six days, the team completed 221 laps, culminating in a second-place finish in the multi-passenger category.
Team Sunergy’s success was driven by their innovative solar-powered car, named Autumn. This next-generation vehicle features a carbon fiber frame and operates solely on solar energy. In preparation for the American Solar Challenge, Team Sunergy had to meet specific qualifying criteria. This involved three driver-passenger teams each covering 50 miles, totaling 200 miles as a team. The team achieved this requirement with a full day to spare, demonstrating their readiness for the upcoming challenge.
Next on the agenda for Team Sunergy is a demanding weeklong cross-country race, starting on July 25. The race begins at the University of Minnesota, spanning approximately 1,500 miles and concluding in Amarillo, Texas. This event promises to be a rigorous test of endurance and innovation for the team.
