Weather Alert: Wind Advisory and Incoming Cold Front in Western Nevada

Residents of Western Nevada are advised to brace for gusty winds and a shift in weather patterns as a wind advisory has been issued, effective until tomorrow night. The area is experiencing a temporary weather phenomenon, courtesy of a weak upper ridge, which is currently keeping conditions relatively warm and dry.

Today’s temperatures are expected to reach a high of 63 degrees, dropping to a chilly 35 degrees overnight. The wind advisory warns of gusts reaching up to 50 mph across the Western Nevada Basin, while the Sierra Ridge could experience more severe gusts, peaking at 70 mph.

Tomorrow, weather changes are on the horizon as the existing ridge weakens, paving the way for a cold front. Precipitation will likely be concentrated in the regions around Elko and Winnemucca. In addition, the Sierra passes may see snowfall accumulation of up to two inches, which could slightly impact travel conditions.

As Thursday arrives, a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected, with valley areas experiencing highs between the upper 40s and lower 50s. Meanwhile, the Sierra regions will see temperatures ranging from the upper 30s to lower 40s. Following this brief cold spell, a warming trend is anticipated to take hold as the week progresses, extending into the weekend.
