As flames rapidly spread, several communities near northwest Reno are on high alert. On Friday afternoon, the Bull Fire expanded to cover more than 1,100 acres, prompting immediate evacuation orders for some areas.
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reported the Bull Fire’s emergence shortly before noon. Residents in Verdi, particularly those located west of Somersett Ridge, are advised to prepare evacuation bags and steer clear of the affected regions.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam urged the public to cooperate with emergency measures: “While first responders are actively working to suppress the Bull Fire, I want to remind everyone to please stay away and give them the space they need to work safely.” He emphasized the importance of minimizing traffic to avoid hindering emergency operations and ensuring the safety of the community. Firefighting efforts are in full swing, with engines, ground crews, and aircraft tackling the blaze from the west and above, while bulldozers forge paths from the south. Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
