Massive Wildfires Force Thousands to Evacuate in Washoe County
The relentless Bug and Stallion Fires have wreaked havoc in Washoe County, where over 100,000 acres have been consumed by flames. These fires continue to pose a significant threat, leading to the destruction of homes and the displacement of thousands of residents.
Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam reported that the fires have prompted the evacuation of more than 13,000 residents. As the community grapples with the devastation, GoFundMe initiatives have been launched to support four families whose homes were obliterated by the inferno.
Jesse Murray, the vice president of energy delivery at NV Energy, stated that over 1,200 households are currently without power. “When the fire behavior is as sporadic as it has been, the last thing we want is for our lines to start a new or a secondary fire,” Murray explained.
