Livestock Event Center Hosts Over 400 Animals Amid Evacuation Efforts
With ongoing evacuation operations, the Livestock Event Center has become a temporary sanctuary, accommodating more than 400 horses and other livestock as of Tuesday afternoon. The center continues to serve as a vital resource for animal owners in need of shelter for their large animals.
Tammy Jennings from Washoe County Regional Animal Services reported that the team is working tirelessly to manage the situation. Despite the challenges, the facility still has capacity and is focusing on providing refuge for animals from high-risk areas.
Jennings explained, “We’ve had quite a few people today that [the] roads opened up, so they got their horses and left. And now they’re on their way back.” This dynamic has been influenced by the fluctuating conditions, prompting some individuals to retrieve their animals prematurely.
While the current location has adequate staffing and resources, no additional sites have been established within the town to accommodate large animals. Nonetheless, the center remains well-equipped to handle the current demands.

Churchill County is also lending support by providing horse stalls in Fallon for evacuees. Jennings recommends those in yellow evacuation zones to begin coordinating their plans.
“I would suggest contacting friends, family, other people that you might know that have space,” Jennings advised. “But definitely be prepared. Get like anything you would want on hand quickly, ready.”
