Experience Vibrant Irish Sessions at Ceol Pub Every Tuesday Night

At Ceol Irish Pub, weekly Irish music sessions create a tight-knit music community in Reno

Every Tuesday night, a pub becomes a haven for Irish music enthusiasts, where the lively atmosphere is complemented by the sounds of traditional Irish instruments. Patrons gather under cultural emblems, enveloped in an ambiance that echoes the spirit of Ireland itself.

Among these musicians is Kat MacMartin, co-host of the evening, who deftly plays a five-string violin. For Kat, this gathering is more than just a musical event.

“Everybody comes in with their week of dramas and joys and sorrows,” she shared. “It creates this beautiful community space that’s an ongoing, organic, alive thing.”

Irish music sessions are deeply rooted in tradition, and Ceol honors this legacy by offering a full bar with classic Irish drinks and a diverse whiskey selection. Kat MacMartin has been a key figure in these sessions since 2016, ensuring an inclusive environment for all musicians.

“The way we run the session is by going around the circle, having each person pick a set, and so we’re kind of making sure that everybody feels involved, engaged, and if they want to pick something, great, if they don’t, they pass along, and it moves around the circle,” she explained.

Regular attendees like Sean Morton, Kat’s partner, find these sessions to be a unique opportunity to connect with others who share their passion for this genre of music.

“It’s certainly very niche,” said Morton. “Outside of going to sessions in other places, it’s hard to meet people who are into the same thing. But I imagine it’s similar to people who go to board game meetups or conventions.”

Among the audience is Kat’s mother, Julie MacMartin, who enjoys the live performances, attending several nights a week.

“I love to go hear live music, and I do it three or four nights a week,” she remarked. “I’ve been coming here for nine years because my daughter plays fiddle and needs a session. It’s always a lift — lots of smiles, lots of happy people.”

As the evening unfolds, Kat has a message for everyone: “Support your community. Support local musicians. Find a place you love to go — weekly, monthly, or whenever — and build friendships, build relationships, build your life.”

The Irish sessions at Ceol Irish Pub welcome all and are held every Tuesday evening, beginning at 7:10 p.m.
