Experience the 45th Great Reno Balloon Race with New Thursday Start

Great Reno Balloon Race adds extra day of events

The Great Reno Balloon Race Kicks Off with New Schedule and Events

Every year, the skies over Reno, Nevada, come alive with the vibrant colors of hot air balloons. This September, the Great Reno Balloon Race returns for its 45th edition, promising to captivate thousands of spectators from near and far.

To address the concerns of locals about weekend crowding, the event has been extended to start a day earlier. According to Shila Morris, the event announcer, “You’ve always seen balloons in the sky on Thursday morning, but Thursday used to not include the Super Glow Show and Dawn Patrol.” Now, attendees can enjoy these events every day of the race.

Starting on Thursday—rather than the traditional Friday start—provides an opportunity for more people, especially locals who have commitments over the weekend, to enjoy the festivities. Additionally, discounted parking is available on Thursday morning to encourage early attendance.

The Great Reno Balloon Race is celebrated as the world’s largest free hot air balloon event. Morris expressed enthusiasm for this year’s milestone, stating it reflects the community’s appreciation for the event’s longstanding tradition.

For those planning to attend, Morris suggests arriving before the 5 a.m. start time to secure a prime viewing spot. She advises, “Bring your blankets. It’s cold in the beginning. It’s warm by the end. And don’t worry, the time will fly by. You’ll love it. Every moment of it is such a joy.”

The event will run from September 10-13, offering breathtaking sights and experiences each day. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the spectacle of the Great Reno Balloon Race is not to be missed.
