Nebraska’s Don Bacon Contemplates Presidential Bid for 2028
In a recent appearance on the Our Republican Legacy podcast, Nebraska’s 2nd District Representative Don Bacon shared his thoughts on a potential presidential run in 2028. During the episode, Bacon expressed his interest, stating, “I won’t lie. Yes, I would love to, but I would also just be happy to be the right-hand or the left-hand man to someone else that has the same values.”
The conversation also touched upon the importance of bipartisanship, referencing past Republican administrations as examples. Bacon emphasized, “But in the end, I want our values to dominate in our party. And I think our country needs people who are not using the FBI, the IRS going through their adversaries, or the attorney general. We want people to be respectful. I like that Ronald Reagan had Tip O’Neill at the White House at times, and had a glass of scotch, right? I think we need leadership that stands as an example of decent humanity and represents Christian values.”
While contemplating the idea of running, Bacon also acknowledged the possibility of supporting another candidate. He remarked, “But I definitely want to be on a team whether I’m the lead or part of the team, fighting for these values for our country because I think the United States needs them, and I think they are looking for them.”
In the meantime, Bacon is not seeking re-election in his district, which has sparked a competitive race in Nebraska’s 2nd District, known as the “Blue Dot.” Despite its tendency to favor Democratic presidential candidates, the district has consistently elected Bacon, a Republican, who has often positioned himself as a moderate.
This November, candidates Republican Brinker Harding, Democrat Denise Powell, and Libertarian Eric Foreman are vying to succeed Bacon and represent the district.
