Nebraska’s Role in Israeli Defense and Agriculture Highlighted

Gov. Pillen shares his experience in Israel while on trade mission

In a recent address, Nebraska’s governor emphasized the state’s crucial role in supporting Israeli defense through advanced technologies produced by companies such as General Dynamics. This aerospace and defense firm, with a significant presence in Lincoln, Nebraska, is contributing to life-saving innovations in the region.

Technological Impact in Defense

Governor Pillen highlighted, “The people of Nebraska and the folks that are part of General Dynamics are playing a significant role. The technological advancements are saving a lot of lives.” His comments underscore the importance of Nebraska’s contributions in the defense technology sector.

Visit to Conflict Zones

The governor’s delegation recently visited Kfar Aza Kibbutz near the Gaza Strip, a site that witnessed tragic events on October 7, 2023, where many residents were killed or taken hostage. Reflecting on the visit, Pillen expressed, “There was extraordinary amounts of evil. And I, like the greatest number of Nebraskans, want to make sure we can play a role, speak it to existence, so that we can be a part of a community of love and grace and a people that will support all brothers and sisters.”

Engagement with U.S. Diplomacy

During the trip, the Nebraska delegation also engaged in discussions with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. Pillen noted, “Ambassador Huckabee was in awe. He bragged about Nebraska being the number one cattle producer in the United States of America, bypassing, surpassing Texas.”

Boosting Beef Exports

Nebraska plays a pivotal role in supplying beef to Israel, accounting for over 99% of U.S. beef exports to the country. This is largely due to the operations of Noah’s Ark Processors in Hastings, the sole U.S. facility exporting kosher beef to Israel. The plant is set to expand significantly, aided by a $10 million USDA Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program grant and an additional $1 million from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

Members of the Ziegelheim family, owners of Noah’s Ark Processors, joined the trade mission to further their reach and collaborate with producers on kosher standards.

Exploring Agricultural Innovations

The governor also pointed out the potential for Nebraska agriculture to benefit from Israeli advancements in water technology. “They are making extraordinary breakthroughs on water,” Pillen stated. “They’re doing desalinization. And so those are great minds and great technologies that we want to be a part of.”
