Nebraska Soldiers Head to Washington, D.C. for Historic America250 Celebrations
In a significant deployment, approximately 190 members of the Nebraska Army National Guard are set to play a crucial role in the upcoming America250 celebrations in Washington, D.C. This mission, announced on January 22, involves cavalry, infantry, and military police units from Nebraska.
The soldiers will join Joint Task Force D.C., where their responsibilities will include monument security, entry control management, and roving presence patrols. These duties align with the increased security needs expected as visitors congregate in the capital for the semiquincentennial events.
A private send-off event occurred last Sunday, bringing together Nebraska National Guard soldiers, their families, and state leaders. During this gathering, Major General Craig Strong addressed the troops, emphasizing the significance of their mission. “This mission you are about to do is pretty unique,” Strong remarked. “You are going to be serving in our nation’s capital and assisting local law enforcement offices and partner agencies in ensuring that Washington, D.C., remains safe and secure. It is a noble mission.”
Maj. Gen. Strong expressed his expectations for the soldiers, urging them to embody the professionalism and civility associated with the Nebraska National Guard. “My expectation for you – as it is in every mission that we take on – is that you will conduct your mission with the absolute professionalism and civility that the Nebraska National Guard and the State of Nebraska are well known for,” he stated. “I have no doubt that the members of this team will live up to and exceed that standard.”
Governor Jim Pillen also extended his best wishes to the departing soldiers, highlighting Nebraska’s pride in contributing to the safety of the nation’s capital. “I am grateful to our many soldiers who are taking part in this deployment, and I appreciate their service over the coming months,” Pillen said.
