Nebraska’s Baseball and Softball Clubs Set for Major Upgrades
Nebraska’s athletic facilities are on the brink of transformation, with significant enhancements planned for the baseball and softball clubhouses. The upgrades, amounting to several million dollars, aim to bolster player development and provide top-tier amenities.
The ambitious $5.5 million project for the baseball clubhouse, announced on the Huskers Radio Network’s Sports Nightly talk show on April 29, will revamp key areas such as the dining space, recovery facilities, and locker rooms. Similarly, the softball clubhouse will undergo a $4 million renovation.
NU Director of Athletics Troy Dannen highlighted the importance of these improvements, stating, “We’re also doing about a $5.5 million rebuild of the baseball clubhouse, when the season is over, and softball is getting about a $4 million rebuild of their clubhouse.”
While recruiting often hinges on name, image, and likeness, head coach Will Bolt emphasized that a new locker room plays a crucial role in fostering player growth. According to him, “the player amenities that we’re going to have will be top notch, in terms of recovery, in terms of the development piece, from nutrition.”
Bolt noted that Dannen quickly recognized the need for these upgrades, remarking, “When Troy got here and he walked through here, he’s like, ‘This is not acceptable for what you guys are trying to do, let alone what you’re already doing with what we see.’”
The baseball team is on track for its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, with the softball team poised for their second straight postseason. The enhancements are expected to give the teams a competitive edge, underlined by the existing facilities at the Alex Gordon Training Complex and Haymarket Park.
Plans for these changes date back to the era when Darin Erstad was at the helm from 2012 to 2019. However, the project timeline remains contingent on the schedule of the Lincoln Saltdogs, who share Haymarket Park and conclude their season in early September.
