Lincoln Surgeon Faces Disciplinary Action Amid Serious Allegations
In a significant development, a prominent orthopedic surgeon in Lincoln is under scrutiny following allegations concerning his behavior while working at Bryan Health.
Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Dr. Steven Shannon. The charges include accusations of “immoral or dishonorable conduct, unprofessional conduct, failure to report a loss of employment and privileges, sexual misconduct, and disruptive behavior.”
The allegations, outlined in a statement from Hilgers, claim that Shannon fostered a hostile work environment for nurses and support staff over the years 2024 and 2025.
Specific accusations against Shannon involve making inappropriate sexual remarks to staff and engaging in a sexual relationship with a clinic staff member who reported directly to him.
As a result of these allegations, Bryan Health suspended Shannon’s medical privileges and eventually terminated his employment. However, it is claimed that Shannon did not report this termination to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services within the mandated 30-day period.
Further allegations suggest that Shannon applied for a position at another hospital without disclosing his previous termination or suspension. Moreover, he allegedly fabricated a verification-of-employment letter, falsely attributing it to an official from Bryan Health.
The hearing for the complaint against Shannon is slated for August 5.
