A 79-year-old woman has fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting every country in the world, describing it as a “dream come true” during an interview with “Good Morning America.”
Luisa Yu, hailing from the Philippines, shared that her passion for travel began in her childhood. She vividly recalled being captivated by the stunning scenery depicted in movies, inspiring her desire to explore the world. Upon coming to the United States as an exchange student at 23, Yu seized every opportunity to travel, starting with domestic trips due to her visa restrictions. Opting for the convenience of Greyhound buses, she traversed various states, fueling her wanderlust. Transitioning from a career in medical technology to becoming a travel agent provided her with the flexibility needed to continue her adventures.
Over the span of five decades, Yu embarked on journeys across diverse continents, from Europe to Asia, and even ventured into regions often deemed risky, driven by her thirst for experiencing history and culture firsthand. Her ambitious goal of visiting all 193 United Nations member states led her to traverse numerous countries, including Serbia, where she concluded her remarkable journey surrounded by friends who had planned a surprise celebration in her honor.
Acknowledged by Nomad Mania as one of two individuals from the Philippines to achieve the prestigious title of “UN Master,” Yu reflected on her travels, emphasizing the universal similarities she discovered among people worldwide. Through her encounters, she gained valuable insights into different cultures and witnessed the shared aspirations for better opportunities among people from diverse backgrounds.
