The alarming event began on Thursday afternoon as neighbors detected smoke emerging from the elderly woman’s residence. In an attempt to save her, they approached the door, but when she hesitated, they summoned the assistance of a nearby UPS driver.
The driver promptly responded by carrying the woman to safety, as confirmed by the Orange County Fire Authority.
Meanwhile, the neighbors swung into action to control the fire. Using fire extinguishers, they managed to suppress the flames originating in the kitchen. Notably, a roofer among them used his ladder to access the roof and directed a garden hose into a kitchen vent to halt the fire’s growth.
Firefighters arrived shortly afterward, successfully extinguishing the fire that had started to spread into the attic. The woman was taken to a local hospital for precautionary checks, although her current condition is unknown.
Fire authorities commended the collective effort, describing it as “a remarkable outcome made possible by quick action, teamwork, and people looking out for one another in a moment of need.”
