Truck Driver’s Heroic Action Averts Disaster on Tennessee Highway

A remarkable act of courage by a truck driver averted a potential catastrophe on Interstate 840 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.

Trucker Matt Munson was navigating the busy interstate when he observed another tractor-trailer moving erratically and slowing down significantly. The situation caught his attention because the truck was drifting across lanes amid speeding traffic.
As Munson drove past the truck, he noticed the driver was unconscious, slumped over the wheel. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Munson took immediate action.
“When I passed him he was laying on his steering wheel and I knew that wasn’t right,” Munson explained to WTVF.
Footage from Munson’s dashcam captured the semi veering towards the shoulder, narrowly missing other vehicles. Munson swiftly stopped his own truck approximately a quarter-mile ahead, sprinted back, and climbed into the driver’s cab of the semi.
Inside, Munson urgently reached the unconscious driver and attempted to stabilize the situation by pressing on the man’s leg to help apply the brakes. His quick-thinking actions brought the truck safely to a halt on the shoulder.
According to the highway patrol, Munson’s speedy intervention was crucial in preventing a severe accident. It was later revealed that the truck’s driver experienced a medical emergency but is on the path to recovery.
