Catrina notices something is wrong / Crestview Local Schools

In footage released by Crestview Local Schools, located in Ashland, Ohio, 14-year-old Charlie and his 8-year-old sister Catrina are seen taking prompt action upon noticing their bus driver was unwell last week.

Seated near the front, Catrina, a third-grader, noticed something was amiss with the driver. After confirming with the driver that she was not alright, Catrina quickly informed other students, including her brother Charlie.

Charlie, a seventh-grade student, immediately assumed leadership. The video depicts him advancing to the front of the bus and using the radio to contact the school for urgent assistance.

“When I realized that something was going on, I went up there and grabbed the radio and then called the school because I knew that was the quickest way to get help,” Charlie explained to ABC affiliate WEWS.

Additionally, Superintendent Jim Grubbs of Crestview Local Schools credited an eighth-grader named Kali who contributed by directing students to move to the back of the bus and dialing 911.

The bus driver received immediate medical attention at the hospital, while a substitute driver completed the students’ journey to school. Reports from WEWS confirm the driver was later released from the hospital and had previously instructed students on how to use the bus radio, for which she was thankful they recalled.

Catrina expressed to WEWS, “I feel proud and happy with myself and happy that we got [the driver] all better now.”

“They remained calm, communicated clearly, and helped one another in a situation that could have been much worse,” remarked Superintendent Grubbs, commending the students’ “truly outstanding” actions. “Their families should be incredibly proud.”
