Athens-Clarke County Voters to Decide on Georgia’s Public Service Commission
Athens-Clarke County voters are faced with a single but significant decision this Election Day: choosing members for Georgia’s Public Service Commission. This body, composed of five elected officials, plays a crucial role in regulating the state’s utility services.
The current election sees incumbents Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson, both representing the Republican Party, standing against Democratic challengers Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard. Although the primary election saw limited voter participation, the general election turnout has notably increased.
Local resident Kim Dean, who resides near Epps Bridge Parkway, expressed her motivation for voting, citing the impact of the commission on utility bills. “The Public Service Commission apparently has a hand in what our electrical, water and gas bill are, so I wanted to see about that,” she stated. Dean also emphasized the importance of regular voting habits, noting, “We all need to get in the habit… of voting.”
Polling stations will remain open until 7 p.m. tonight. Voters seeking information on their polling locations can visit Georgia’s My Voter page.
