While driving on A1A in Brevard County, Brittingham noticed two young girls standing on the highway, with one already in the traffic lane. He quickly pulled over and ran towards them.
Using one hand to signal oncoming vehicles to stop, Brittingham used the other to pick up the first toddler, quickly followed by the second, ensuring both were out of harm’s way within moments.
“I was terrified thinking of what could have happened to them,” Brittingham shared with WESH. “The rest of my life would have been ruined.”
The rescue was recorded on his vehicle’s dash cameras, capturing the emotional moment as the toddlers reached out their arms.
After ensuring the children’s safety, Brittingham set out to locate their parents. He went to a nearby Airbnb, knocked, and called out while holding the children, believed to be around two years old. They could only gesture and say “Ohh.”
Eventually, Brittingham found an open gate leading to an elderly couple and a young girl, who were the children’s family. They were unaware of the toddlers’ venture onto the road.
“They immediately went into, ‘Oh my God, we’re so sorry,’” Brittingham recounted to WESH. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, I know, I’m just glad I could get them back to you. They were out in the road, and your gate was open.’”
The intensity of the situation affected Brittingham later. “My adrenaline spiked,” he said. “I had a migraine when I finally got home. I was drained completely for the rest of the day.”
