On September 9, fire departments from Pasadena, Arcadia, and Sierra Madre were called to a blaze in Pasadena, California. A 911 report hinted at a dog trapped inside the smoke-filled residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that Milo was in severe peril.

The rescue mission commenced as no humans were present in the house. Sierra Madre firefighter Jessica Johnson braved the hazardous conditions and found Milo beneath a table, engulfed in dense smoke.

Milo was found unresponsive.

“I barely could see him. I just kind of picked him up, brought him outside, and realized you could feel how limp he was,” Johnson recalled.

Johnson, an experienced dog owner, recognized the urgency and brought Milo to safety, where firefighters worked swiftly to administer oxygen and revive him.

After approximately five minutes of determined effort, Milo regained consciousness, much to the relief of his rescuers.

According to the Pasadena Fire Department, Milo had been trapped for over eight minutes, and every second spent in the smoke-choked environment was critical.

The emotional rescue left an impact on Johnson. “I shed a little bit of a tear but, you know, you’ve got to keep it professional and continue to do my job,” she stated.

Milo’s family expressed profound gratitude during a reunion with the firefighters who saved him. His owner, Leticia, shared, “Acting as quickly as they did, risking their lives for somebody else, and trying for it to be the best outcome as possible. I’m forever, forever grateful. They’re truly heroes.”

Currently, Milo is back at home, managing a slight cough, but his veterinarian anticipates a full recovery. Already, Milo is active, returning to his routine of running and playing.

The story of Milo is one of hope and resilience, underscored by the unwavering dedication of firefighters who refused to let him be another victim of the fire.
