A Santa Cruz surf rescue involving a young boy has sparked heartfelt responses, highlighting the dangers that can lurk in the ocean and the heroism of lifeguards. Sumit Rai, whose 10-year-old son Nathaniel was saved from a life-threatening situation, has shared his perspective on the near-tragic event.
“He assumed he was going to die. He was drowning. He knew he was drowning. He blacked out. He went unconscious,” Rai recounted, emphasizing the severity of the incident.
Rai further mentioned, “Another two or three seconds, I don’t think my son would have made it.”
The focus of his gratitude was the teenage lifeguard, Ryder, who managed the incredible feat of holding onto Nathaniel against the formidable rip current. Rai observed, “I watched Ryder hold Nathaniel the entire time, it is so easy to let go and be forced to let go with those currents and rips. For him to be able to hold onto him with those forces is incredible.”
“God bless them… I cannot express sufficient gratitude,” Rai said.
