Wesley Family Services had announced plans to discontinue the “Open Your Heart to a Senior” program in Westmoreland County due to insufficient federal funding. This program is essential for many seniors, offering them the necessary support and supplies they are unable to acquire otherwise.

The news struck a personal chord with Diana Holcomb.

“I don’t have anybody,” expressed Holcomb, highlighting her concerns over basic needs. “I thought, ‘What’s going to happen? Where am I going to get food? How am I going to eat?'”

Determined to make a difference, Holcomb shared her predicament with a local television station, hoping her voice would be heard.

“I thought the word has to get out there. Somebody has to know,” she stated.

Her heartfelt story resonated with the community.

In a matter of days, an anonymous donor reached out to Wesley Family Services, offering an astonishing $100,000 to fund the program for another year in Westmoreland County.

“Much to our surprise—and I find this very humbling and overwhelming—we had a donor come forward for the program in Westmoreland County and donate $100,000,” remarked Doug Muetzel, CEO of Wesley Family Services.

Upon hearing the news, Holcomb was overtaken with gratitude.

“Wow, somebody out there cares,” she reflected. “It brought me to tears. I just thanked the Lord for working this out.”

Mentioning Holcomb’s experience, Muetzel commended the community’s response, emphasizing how such stories can highlight existing needs and inspire action among others.
