A young girl from Chicago’s south suburbs is being praised for her heroic actions that ensured her father received timely medical care.

On a typical evening in Lynwood, Xavier Dates was at home with his daughter, Mia. After checking in on Mia upstairs, Xavier slipped on his way down the stairs, resulting in a head injury.
Mia sensed the urgency of the situation immediately.
Witnessing her father in distress, she swiftly reached for his phone and dialed 911.
Emergency responders, including paramedics Kevin and Bianca Rosas, arrived at the scene quickly. Despite the chaos, Mia’s composed demeanor was evident.
“It was a pretty scary dog when we showed up, and right then and there it just causes a pretty hectic scene,” Kevin shared with CBS News.
Mia took several crucial steps: securing the family dog, finding the house keys, unlocking the door, and thereby facilitating the paramedics’ swift access. These actions were instrumental in Xavier’s timely care.
“If it wasn’t for that girl, honestly, I don’t know how long it would’ve taken to get to our patient,” Kevin said.
Xavier was transported to the hospital, where he continues to recover well.
The paramedics emphasized the significance of teaching children to recognize emergencies and take appropriate action. Mia credited her mother for educating her on emergency protocols.
Mia’s courageous conduct was acknowledged by Lynwood’s mayor, local police, and fire chiefs, in addition to earning her father’s heartfelt gratitude.
“I took it a little emotional, knowing that she was there for me,” Xavier expressed.
