Innovative Music Event Takes Place at Historic Church Near Athens
Just a short drive from Athens, a unique musical gathering is set to take place in an unconventional venue. On August 23rd, Piedmont Sound, a new recording label, will host a distinctive listening event at the Portico Church.
Located within a collection of rejuvenated farmhouses, the Portico Church, once the High Shoals Baptist Church, now serves as a versatile event location. This venue doubles as a recording studio and the headquarters for Piedmont Sound.
Having launched just a year ago, Piedmont Sound is eager to introduce their first event in this space. Partner Josh Nathan expressed the label’s enthusiasm for engaging with the indie artist scene and showcasing the Portico.
“We are at the beginning of fostering what we want the community to be,” Nathan stated. “So first and foremost, showing off the Portico and by effect fostering the community we are trying to build in relationship to the Portico and like all of what Piedmont Sound is about.”
The August 23rd event will feature performances by American artists Gabe Lee, Tyler Key, and Cody Marlowe. Attendees will also enjoy dinner as part of their ticket purchase.
Looking ahead, Piedmont Sound plans to host a Music Festival in November, with proceeds benefiting Athens’ own Nuci’s Space.
