University of Georgia Professor Honored for Dual Expertise
A distinguished professor at the University of Georgia has been celebrated for his contributions to both education and research. John Knox, who holds the title of Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Geography, has been awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award by the University of Wisconsin Madison’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
Knox expressed his thoughts on receiving this honor by saying, “I don’t know for sure, but I think I was nominated because I do both teaching and research.” He noted that previously, the award has been predominantly given to researchers and broadcast meteorologists. Knox shared, “I think that they wanted to rectify that a little bit, and so my career has both prongs, and I’ve tried to be good at both of them.”
Renowned for his work in clear air turbulence forecasting, Knox highlighted the historical ties between the University of Georgia and the University of Wisconsin Madison, emphasizing the significance of his recognition.
