UGA Linebackers Arrested for Reckless Driving, Speeding Charges

Two UGA football players arrested for reckless driving in Athens

UGA Football Players Face Charges Following Traffic Violations

Two University of Georgia football players found themselves in legal trouble on Wednesday night, highlighting ongoing concerns about driving-related incidents within the team. Sophomore linebacker Christopher Cole and freshman linebacker Darren Ikinnagbon were both booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail, marking the latest in a series of such issues for the program.

Cole and Ikinnagbon were charged with reckless driving and speeding, according to police records. Ikinnagbon also received an additional charge for following too closely. The arrests occurred at 9:59 p.m. and 10:37 p.m., respectively.

WUGA has reached out to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department to obtain the incident report. However, as of Thursday morning, the report remains incomplete.

The arrests contribute to a troubling pattern for the UGA football team, which has seen multiple driving-related incidents in recent years. Notably, a fatal crash occurred following the team’s 2023 national championship victory, resulting in the deaths of a staff member and a player.

Both players were released shortly after their arrests, with Cole posting a $26 cash bail and Ikinnagbon paying $39.
