In a bid to galvanize support for key Republican candidates, President Donald Trump is set to rally in Dalton on Friday. This event is part of the broader campaign efforts for the upcoming midterm elections, where significant political battles are anticipated.
Details of the Event
The rally will be held at the Dalton Municipal Airport, with the venue opening to attendees at 11:30 a.m., followed by speeches beginning at 3 p.m. This will be President Trump’s third visit to Georgia in 2026, following previous appearances in Rome and Cobb County.
Key Figures and Races
Noteworthy figures joining Trump include Republican Congressman and U.S. Senate hopeful Mike Collins, alongside gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson. Jackson is vying to unseat Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former Atlanta Mayor, and has expressed ambitions to be “Trump’s favorite governor.”
Mike Collins took to social media to express his anticipation, stating, “Excited to welcome President Trump back to Georgia on Friday! We will continue to keep our communities safe, cut taxes and bring down costs, and deliver for Georgia families.”
Political Context and Criticism
The event underscores Trump’s backing of Collins, who is challenging the Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff for a Senate seat. During a speech in July, Trump criticized Ossoff, saying, “Georgia’s a state that believes in common sense, and yet your terrible senator, Jon Ossoff — he’s terrible. And the Democrats in Congress are voting with the Communists every single time. They’re afraid of the Communists.”
Other Elections and Voting Information
Georgia voters will also decide on races for positions such as lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and state school superintendent. Early voting began on Tuesday and will run until Friday, October 30, with the General Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
