Tragic Accident Claims Young Life in Athens
In a heartbreaking incident in Athens, a young boy has died following a traffic accident, marking the city’s seventh fatal crash this year. The incident occurred on August 8, 2026, at a busy intersection, drawing attention to pedestrian safety in the area.
The collision took place at the crossroads of Lexington Road and Whit Davis Road when a 2018 Dodge Ram, moving west, struck a pedestrian. The victim, identified as 9-year-old Maxton Ball, had reportedly entered the street from a nearby Hardee’s parking lot.
Sadly, Maxton sustained critical injuries and after being hospitalized for three days, he passed away. This unfortunate event adds to the growing number of fatal crashes in Athens this year.
As of now, the identity of the driver involved in the crash has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether legal charges will be pursued.
