Special Election Scheduled for Georgia House District 121
An unexpected vacancy has prompted a special election in Georgia’s House District 121, encompassing Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties. Set for December 9, this election comes in the wake of Republican Marcus Weidower’s sudden resignation.
Weidower stepped down to dedicate more time to his commitments at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm. This departure has opened up the race for new candidates, although only one individual has officially declared their intention to run.
Local Democrat Eric Gisler, who previously contested the seat against Weidower in 2018, is planning to compete once again. Gisler, a University of Georgia graduate, is focusing his campaign on key issues such as healthcare access, the quality of education, and affordable housing.
Voters interested in participating in the upcoming election should note that the deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is November 26.
