Changes to Alcohol Regulations in Winterville and Oconee County
Recent developments have altered the landscape for alcohol sales in both Winterville and Oconee County. Key decisions were made through a government meeting and a public vote, changing how alcohol can be distributed and served in these areas.
During the Oconee County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting on November 4, significant amendments were introduced to the Alcoholic Beverages Ordinance. These changes redefine what constitutes a “restaurant” under the ordinance, allowing establishments to serve alcohol provided they can accommodate meal service for at least 30 patrons.
Meanwhile, in Winterville, a community decision was reached through a voter referendum. Over 300 residents participated in the vote, resulting in the approval of alcohol sales on Sundays. Additionally, the measure for “liquor by the drink” received the green light, as reported by Online Athens.
