Clarke County Board of Education Welcomes New Member Amid Leadership Changes
The Clarke County Board of Education recently appointed Johnelle Simpson II to occupy the District 8 seat, following Nicole Hull’s resignation, which will be effective June 30. Simpson’s tenure will extend until December 31, 2026, although a special election is slated for November 3, as mandated by state law.
This decision emerged during the board’s meeting on June 11, where members assessed applications and listened to presentations from three eligible District 8 residents. Thursday’s meeting also coincided with Hull’s last scheduled participation on the board.
In another significant development, Board President Dr. Mumbi Anderson declared her immediate resignation from the leadership position, though she will persist in her duties as the District 6 representative. Consequently, the board elected Mark Evans, the District 9 representative, as the new president. Evans, who has been the vice president since January 2024, is currently in his first term and has secured re-election for a second term starting in 2027.
