New St. Mary’s Center groundbreaking set for Friday morning

New Healthcare Facility to Transform Medical Services in the Region

Excitement is building in the community as St. Mary’s Health Care System prepares to break ground on a cutting-edge medical facility. The proposed St. Mary’s Center for Heart, Vascular and Neurosciences (CHVN) is set to initiate construction on Friday at 11 a.m. at 1230 Baxter Street.

This 15,000-square-foot center, slated to open next October, aims to bolster the hospital’s capabilities in treating critical conditions such as stroke, heart attack, blood vessel disease, and cancer.

Key attractions of the upcoming CHVN include advanced 4D CT imaging technology, enhanced rapid-response stroke services, and a dedicated electrophysiology laboratory for diagnosing and managing serious heart rhythm disorders.

Stonish Pierce, the president and CEO of Trinity Health Georgia, highlighted the significance of this development, noting it as a $34.6 million investment aimed at elevating community health services. He emphasized, “Our area’s population continues to grow and the need for life-saving and life-improving healthcare services continues to grow with it. As part of Trinity Health, we are committed to meeting the needs of our patients and the communities we serve for top-quality, innovative and compassionate care.”

The event, co-hosted by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, is open to the public and promises refreshments, giveaways, and insightful remarks from key figures involved in the project.
