Major Fentanyl Bust in Athens Leads to Arrest and Seizures
In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, alongside the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force, has successfully dismantled a major fentanyl operation in Athens. This operation culminated in the arrest of a 56-year-old man, Darren Turner, on July 29th, marking a crucial victory in the ongoing fight against the illegal drug trade.
Turner’s arrest followed an extensive investigation involving multiple traffic stops and the execution of three search warrants. Authorities seized a substantial amount of evidence, including $74,000 in cash, four firearms, four vehicles, and a trafficking-level quantity of fentanyl.
The charges levelled against Turner are serious. He faces allegations of trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute the drug, as well as three counts of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
