Explosion at Athens Industrial Facility Leaves Two Workers Injured
An unexpected explosion involving oxygen tanks disrupted the operations at a contracting facility in Athens, leaving two employees injured. The incident took place at Reinicke Athens Inc. on Commerce Boulevard, where emergency services responded promptly on Monday morning.
Upon receiving reports of an explosion, units from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Although there was no visible fire, the explosion had already taken its toll on the workers present.
According to on-site information, the incident occurred as the employees attempted to trace the origin of an oxygen leak. This led to a sudden explosion, the exact cause of which remains under investigation by fire officials.
Medical treatment was administered to the injured workers by fire department personnel before National EMS transported them to a nearby hospital. The severity of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Notably, the explosion did not result in any fire or damage to the facility’s property.
