Democrat Eric Gisler Takes Office as Georgia State Representative
In a significant political shift, Eric Gisler was officially sworn in as the State Representative for Georgia’s House District 121. The swearing-in ceremony occurred at the Oconee County Courthouse under the supervision of Superior Court Judge Lisa Lott. This district primarily covers most of Oconee County and includes the eastern region of Athens-Clarke County.
Gisler, representing the Democratic Party, emerged victorious in a Special Election conducted on December 9, 2025. The election was necessitated by the resignation of former Republican representative Marcus Wiedower in October. Gisler triumphed over Mack “Dutch” Guest IV to secure the position.
The victory garnered widespread attention as the seat had been a Republican stronghold for years.
