Georgia House District 121 Race: Candidates Focus on Healthcare Access
In the upcoming special election for Georgia House District 121, which encompasses parts of Oconee and Clarke Counties, the competition is heating up between two candidates. Eric Gisler, hailing from Oconee County, is representing the Democratic side with a strong emphasis on healthcare accessibility and insurance coverage.
Gisler highlights a critical issue affecting the state, stating, “Right now in the state of Georgia there are 1.2 million people who have no healthcare coverage at all. It’s time for us to look for something different, for sure.” His strategy, if elected, involves considering reinsurance programs that would permit insurers to offload some of their risks to the state.
Gisler previously faced Marcus Wiedower in the 2024 elections but secured about 40% of the vote. With Wiedower’s resignation in late October, the seat is open once again. Despite the district’s historical Republican representation, Gisler aims to capture the attention of moderate GOP voters, advocating for a shift in leadership. He comments, “I think it’s time for a change in state leadership in Atlanta, and I think it’s time to put people in place who are willing to acknowledge those challenges that our friends and neighbors are going through and start looking at real solutions to them.”
Competing against Gisler is Mack “Dutch” Guest IV, a Republican candidate from Oconee County. Voters will make their choice in the special election scheduled for December 9th.
