On the Republican side, broadcaster Kris Kendrick and UGA microbiology professor Chad Paton have announced their candidacies. Democrat Suzanne Karatassos, a resident of Jackson County, has also entered the race.

Athens-Clarke County’s mayoral race has gained a new contender, as Sharon Miller, senior pastor for AME churches in Athens and Jefferson, declared her candidacy for the upcoming May 19 election.
