Democracy Defense Project Hosts Forum to Address Electoral System Transparency
On Tuesday, a significant event unfolded at the University of Georgia as the Democracy Defense Project (DDP) convened a forum focusing on the critical aspects of the U.S. electoral system. This bipartisan organization is committed to ensuring the transparency and security of elections nationwide.
The forum, held on the UGA campus, featured a panel moderated by Dr. Audrey Haynes from the School of Public and International Affairs. The discussion included insights from prominent figures such as former Senator Saxby Chambliss, former Governor Roy Barnes, and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin.
Key topics covered in the forum were the intersection of politics and policy, the influence of cancel culture, and the challenges posed by bipartisan divides. Shirley Franklin highlighted the unique advantage of DDP’s bipartisan approach in tackling these issues.
“By having a bipartisan approach, it gives us an opportunity to assess what is going on in the legislature and in the opportunities that people have for fair and accessible voting in the state,” Franklin stated, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across party lines.
As Georgia approaches the 2026 elections, Franklin also urged residents to participate actively in the upcoming electoral process, underscoring the importance of voter engagement for maintaining a robust democratic system.
