ICE Operations Stir Reactions in Athens Community
Recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities have sparked discussions in Athens, prompting local and national responses. Amid these developments, Congressman Andrew Clyde has expressed his stance on the presence of ICE in the area.
Through a statement, Clyde lauded the efforts of ICE, stating, “The brave men and women of ICE are American heroes who deserve our full support, appreciation, and respect. ICE agents are welcome in Athens—and every Georgia community for that matter—as they work tirelessly to protect American citizens and prevent tragedies, like the brutal murder of Laken Riley, from ever happening again.”
Over the past few days, ICE has been active in Athens, with reports from the Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition (AIRC) indicating that several individuals have been detained. Among those affected are four members of a single family, resulting in an 11-year-old girl being separated from her parents.
In response to these events, AIRC is actively collecting donations to provide assistance to the families impacted by the recent arrests. Their efforts aim to support those facing difficulties due to the ongoing ICE operations in the community.
