Bigger Vision of Athens Halts Day Service on Thanksgiving for Staff

Bigger Vision of Athens to close day service on Thanksgiving Day

Athens Shelter Modifies Operations for Thanksgiving, Prioritizing Staff Well-Being

Bigger Vision of Athens, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting homeless individuals, is adjusting its schedule on Thanksgiving Day. Since its inception in 1998, the shelter has been a vital resource, offering meals and accommodation daily. However, this Thanksgiving, it will pause its daytime services, including lunch.

Chris Garcia, who serves as the director of Bigger Vision, explained the rationale behind this decision. “We were hoping to close for our staff, because our staff has never really had the opportunity to enjoy the holidays with their family,” stated Garcia.

Despite the cessation of day services, the shelter will continue to provide overnight accommodations. This includes a dinner service, a place to sleep, and breakfast the following morning, made possible by the dedication of one staff member who will be on duty.

Bigger Vision of Athens is calling for community support in the form of breakfast donations. They specifically request items that are pre-made and pre-packaged, facilitating ease of distribution and safety for their guests.
