Athens Community Invited to Engage in Georgia Square Mall Redevelopment Dialogue
Residents of Athens will soon have an opportunity to engage directly with key figures involved in the Georgia Square Mall redevelopment project. District 6 Commissioner Stephanie Johnson is organizing a Town Hall meeting on Thursday evening, aiming to provide an open forum for discussion and questions regarding the mall’s future.
According to Johnson, the event will feature a presentation by one of the leading developers, as well as participation from an engineer involved in planning and zoning. Additionally, the planning director of Athens-Clarke County will be present to address community queries.
Johnson emphasized the significance of keeping the community informed as new information emerges. “I have always promoted transparency and education and communication,” she stated. “I’ve not been able to provide an update about the mall since last year. So, it’s been a really long time, and when I tell you on a weekly basis, if I identify myself as the commissioner of District 6 and someone asks, the first question-what’s happening with the mall?’ There’s been a lot of work that’s taken place behind the scenes.”
The Town Hall is scheduled to be held at the mall, starting at 6 pm, with doors opening at 5:30 pm. Commissioner Johnson also mentioned plans for additional meetings to keep the public informed on the redevelopment progress.
