Athens Awaits: Rock Lobsters Gear Up for Home Game Return
The anticipation is palpable as the Athens Rock Lobsters prepare to return to their home ice, marking the start of their second season. The community is eager to see if Athens can truly embrace its identity as a hockey town.
Athens made headlines in 2024 by welcoming a professional hockey team, sparking curiosity about the city’s potential to support the sport. Tomorrow’s crowd at the home opener will be a testament to the growth of the fanbase, affectionately known as the Crustacean Nation.
Scott Hull, President of the Athens Rock Lobsters, expressed gratitude for the local support. “Nothing gets the guys more fired up than playing in front of 5,000+ every night, and, you know, they feed off that energy and that always gets us more W’s,” Hull said.
The Rock Lobsters are set to play their third away game tonight against the PeeDee Wildcats. The result of this match will set the tone for their home opener on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Akins Ford Arena, where they will go head-to-head with the Twin City Thunderbirds.
