New Developments on Jefferson Road: A Closer Look
A transformative redevelopment initiative is underway in Athens-Clarke County, promising significant changes for Jefferson Road’s Homewood Village Shopping Center. This project has been a focal point of recent discussions among local leaders.
During a recent agenda setting meeting, the Mayor and Commission evaluated the proposal spearheaded by Carter, a real estate firm based in Atlanta. Carter has been actively working on this redevelopment since June 2024, aiming to revitalize the area with modern amenities and enhanced community features.
Jack Murphy, Chief Investment Officer at Carter, highlighted the project’s potential impact, stating it will replace “outdated retail with high quality apartments, improved walkability, safety, and connectivity; increased tree canopy from 12% to 47%…”
Additionally, a third-party analysis presented by Carter assured that the redevelopment will not lead to increased traffic, addressing a common concern among residents. The Mayor and Commission are set to cast their votes on this proposal in the upcoming December meeting.
