Teen Sentenced to 35 Years for Georgia Murder
An 18-year-old individual has received a lengthy prison sentence following a guilty plea in a high-profile murder case in Georgia. This development, announced by Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing battle against violent crime.
Zyquavious Thomas, who was 16 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery. The charges are related to the murder of 20-year-old Cameron Manago, which occurred in 2024 at Rolling Ridge Apartments in Athens.
The case against Thomas involved serious allegations of gang involvement, as he was identified as a member of the Sex Money Murder street gang, according to Carr. Thomas also faced convictions for aggravated assault, violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, and possessing firearms illegally as a minor.
The conviction was the result of a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, including Carr’s Gang Prosecution Unit, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This teamwork was crucial in securing the conviction.
Attorney General Carr emphasized the impact of these legal actions, stating, “With each new conviction, we’re sending a strong message that violent crime won’t be tolerated in Athens or anywhere in this state, and it’s making a difference. We’re proud to have secured justice for Cameron Manago and his family, and we will continue to use all available resources to keep Georgians safe.”
As the legal process continues, the state is actively pursuing a case against another defendant involved in the incident. The outcome of this ongoing case remains to be seen.
