Dolly Parton Celebration to Support Children’s Literacy Program
In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Dolly Parton, a group in Watkinsville is organizing a special fundraising event. The Social Dance Preserve will host this tribute on Friday, August 28, focusing on Parton’s impact and legacy.
Located at 1052 Moreland Heights Road, the Social Dance Preserve will begin the evening with a dance lesson at 7 p.m., followed by a musical tribute at 8 p.m. that will feature songs by Dolly Parton and other artists she inspired. The event is organized by Jean Guard, who saw this as a chance to honor Parton’s memory.
“Well, we have lost one of our American icons,” Guard remarked. “You know, someone who brought many people together and superseded anything that divides us and that’s Dolly Parton. She was just such a lovely lady. We tend to get together on Friday nights and I just thought it would be fitting to turn it into a celebration of her life.”
Dolly Parton, who passed away at the age of 80, left behind a lasting legacy, not only in music but also in children’s education. In 1995, she founded the Imagination Station Literacy Program, which aims to foster a love of reading among children through her Imagination Library.
All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, continuing her mission to enhance children’s literacy.
