Scranton Police Investigate Attempted Child Abductions

Authorities in Scranton are on high alert as they search for a vehicle tied to a series of attempted child abductions that took place on Monday morning.

Parents and guardians received an urgent notification from the Scranton School District regarding an attempted abduction incident in front of South Scranton Intermediate School. Additionally, another attempt was reported on the 500 block of East Elm Street, which is also in proximity to the school.




The suspect is described as a male wearing a black face mask, driving a silver Hyundai Elantra with tinted windows, bearing the license plate LYK1711. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from the 500 block of Cedar Avenue.

To ensure safety, there will be an increased police presence around all local school buildings throughout the day. The district has also advised parents and guardians to promptly pick up their children after school and, when feasible, accompany them on their way home. Anyone who encounters a similar situation is urged to contact 911 immediately.

A statement from the district emphasized, “The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
