North Carolina Libraries Receive Significant Funding Boost Through State Grants
Across the state of North Carolina, libraries are set to benefit from a substantial financial injection, thanks to a new round of grants distributed by the State Library. A total of 46 grants, amounting to approximately $2.8 million, have been allocated to both public and academic libraries.
Among the beneficiaries is the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), which secured about $127,000. Other institutions receiving grants include North Carolina A&T State University, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Wilkes Community College, Davidson County Public Library, Iredell County Public Library, and the Moravian Church Southern Province in Winston-Salem.
According to state officials, this funding aims to address the unique needs of each community library. The financial support is intended to enhance library offerings, from expanding tutoring initiatives to introducing new services designed to increase patron engagement.
In previous instances, such grants have significantly impacted local communities. For example, Forsyth Technical Community College used past funds to establish a makerspace, while UNCG launched innovative STEM programs for children in the area.
