Georgia Governor Approves Amended Fiscal Year 2026 Budget

In a push to provide financial relief to citizens, Governor Brian Kemp has enacted the revised Fiscal Year 2026 budget, highlighting tax reductions for both income and property owners. The budget’s approval marks a significant step in Kemp’s strategy to ease the tax burden on Georgians.

“I am proud to sign this budget that includes $2 billion for income and property tax relief,” Kemp stated, emphasizing his commitment to lowering the income tax rate to 4.99% permanently.

Kemp assured that the budget’s allocations are designed to avoid long-term financial liabilities for future generations. He elaborated, “I want to stress that while the document on that table amounts to a large sum… much of those funds are one-time spends and do not add long-term liabilities to the state that our children and grandchildren would have to pay back.”

The budget also outlines significant investments in public services, including a $325 million endowment for the DREAMS Scholarship program, which supports need-based financial aid. Other notable allocations include $409 million dedicated to constructing a new mental health facility and approximately $2 billion for enhancing transportation infrastructure. Governor Kemp assured that the state maintains robust financial reserves, stating there are sufficient funds “in our rainy-day fund to keep state government working for nearly three months without any additional funds.”

In addition to these measures, a one-time refund will be issued to taxpayers, providing immediate fiscal relief alongside the structural changes.
