Forsyth Strong: Transformative Initiatives for Community Development

A new initiative, Forsyth Strong, has embarked on a mission to address the critical needs within the county, ranging from housing to mental health care. Just a month into its launch, the organization is already making strides toward its ambitious goals.

At their first meeting, Forsyth Strong outlined various pressing issues and set specific objectives. Among these, the enhancement of educational and mental health services took center stage. Co-chair of the Education Team, Naijla Faizi, emphasized the commitment from educational authorities to bolster support for exceptional children by hiring additional teachers and therapists in the upcoming school year.

Faizi remarked, “Some of what we’re doing right now is continuing to expand on those proposals and then following up with folks like the superintendent and school board officials to say how will these dollars be used so that we can have accountability measures for the public.”

In an effort to broaden mental health care access, Forsyth Strong is actively engaging with the county’s primary health providers. Notably, Novant has pledged resources aimed at ensuring housing stability as part of these ongoing discussions.

Looking ahead, Forsyth Strong is preparing to formalize its operations with plans to register as a nonprofit organization. The initiative is also working on expanding its network by recruiting new member institutions.
