Students in Watauga County are set to experience longer school days starting this Monday. The decision, made by the Watauga County Board of Education last April, will extend daily classroom hours for students across the district.
Under the new schedule, elementary and middle school students will attend classes for an additional 25 minutes each day, while high school students will see a ten-minute increase. This change aims to accumulate more instructional time, allowing the district to minimize the need for remote learning during unforeseen closures due to bad weather.
Superintendent Leslie Alexander expressed optimism in a Watauga County Schools newsletter, stating that the extra instructional time could lead to “deeper learning, stronger relationships and increased student achievement.”
