The University of Georgia Welcomes New Associate Dean as Medical School Prepares to Open

The University of Georgia is gearing up for an exciting development with the anticipated opening of its School of Medicine in the Fall of 2026. A key appointment has been made as Vaishali Schuchert takes on the role of associate dean for student affairs, a position she will officially start on June 1st.

In her new role, Schuchert will oversee the student affairs division, focusing on ensuring a comprehensive and enriching educational journey for all medical students. Her tasks will involve managing the various aspects of student affairs and enhancing the overall student experience within the School of Medicine.

Prior to this appointment, Schuchert was deeply involved in medical education, having served as the director of medical student education for the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, where she also held a position as an associate professor.

Reflecting on her new role, Schuchert emphasized the importance of personalized support for students, stating, “Our job in the Office of Student Affairs is to identify how to best support each individual student. We want to empower our students to seek support when needed and proactively develop habits and behaviors that will help them succeed in medical school and beyond.”
